SACRAMENTO, CA — Surrounded by local families and businesses Dr. Yona Barash rallied against the implementation of California’s gas tax increase on Saturday. On November 1, 2017 California began implementing new transportation taxes which included raising the State excise taxes by 12 cents a gallon on regular fuel and 20 cents a gallon on diesel.
Dr. Barash has been a vocal opponent to the increases and pledged his support for repealing the tax:
“This gas tax doesn’t just hurt families at the pump,” said Barash. “This tax will hurt every Californian when they go to buy items such as groceries or school clothes for their children because increasing the cost of fuel will increase the price of almost every product purchased by consumers. Californians already pay some of the highest gas taxes in the nation, the fact is the California legislature has mismanaged transportation funds for years, spending money on pet projects instead of necessary road maintenance. Now they want taxpayers to bail them out. Jerry Brown and the California legislature are forcing lower and middle income families to spend more of their income because of their own failures. I will work to ensure this tax gets repealed and I will do everything in Congress to oppose new tax increases on California families.”
Dr. Yona Barash one of the area’s top surgeons has recently announced his candidacy against Ami Bera for the 7th Congressional District in Sacramento County. Since entering the election Barash has quickly gained momentum including earning the endorsement of former Sacramento Sheriff John McGinness among others. The 7th District is entirely nested in Sacramento County and includes the cities of Folsom, Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova and Fair Oaks.
