Congressional candidate backed by former Sac County sheriff
Dr. Yona Barash, a physician and attorney who plans to challenge U.S. Rep. Ami Bera, D-Elk Grove, for his 7th Congressional District seat next year, continues to gather supporters.
Among the Republican’s notable supporters is former Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinness.
McGinness described Barash as having “a unique story that will inspire and excite voters in the 7th Congressional District.”
“Yona is an immigrant who fled oppression and grew up in refugee camps,” he said. “Yona has fought with the (Israel Defense Forces), and as a surgeon, Yona has saved thousands of lives right here in this district through his practice as a surgical oncologist.
“Yona’s story is the ultimate tale of the American dream and he is the only candidate with real life experiences that will attract votes from across party lines.”
Barash, 72, added that ever since Bera defeated Dan Lungren for the congressional seat in 2012, McGinness believed Barash would be the “only candidate that could beat Ami Bera.”
